I changed references from "Skynight" to "Skyknight" to correctly reflect the aircraft's official name according to:

A-9?

[edit]

This article states: "The general engine and wing configuration would also re-appear on the Northrop YA-9 contender for the A-X "Attack Experimental" program." This appears to be an odd reference as the latter was a single-seat, land-based, radar-less CAS prototype that never made it into production. Even odder is that no reference is made to the A-6, a two-seater (side-by-side to boot), carrier-based, all-weather aircraft that was highly successful and very nearly looks much more like the big brother of the Skyknight (heck, even operated by both the Navy and Marines). Obviously, none of these three aircraft had much in common as they were all built by completely different contractors, but if you're going to try to build some sort of legacy, the Intruder is a much more obvious candidate. The XP-59 had a similar "engine and wing configuration", as did the F3D's contemporary, the F-89, and the Su-25. The A-6 did NOT have a similar wing configuration, though it did have similar seating behind a large nose radar installation, and underslung engines. (One might get away with saying the A-6 looked like an F-3D on steroids, but that is irrelevant here too.) The other similarities of the F3D and A-6 aren't related to configuration. Anyway, the F-14 is mentioned in the paragraph because it was the aircraft that finally fufilled the F6Ds mission, which is the subject of the paragraph. I think some fan boy just took libeties to make an irrelevant comment about the A-9. I've removed it, and the Dogfights reference to the F3D shooting down a MiG in 2007 - hey, that's how it read! - BilCat (talk) 22:02, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Working on Improving article by adding Korea and Vietnam sections with much expanded history and references.

[edit]

I have spent a great deal of time researching the history of the Skynight oops Skyknight. Felt sorry for the fella, and respected the radar capability of such an early jet fighter.

Pancho Barnes and Her Fame Among Test Pilots.

Anyway thought I might include some early Edwards AFB history about Pancho Barnes and the Happy Bottom Riding Club as the link was to the early trials that occurred there that the Skyknight was part of. It was good enough for Chuck Yeager, Buzz Aldrin, Jimmy Doolittle and many other early test pilots of that era but apparently its just trivia according to a few. Maybe they did not check out the link or maybe the name makes them nervous. Not sure? I thought it was great to include some early jet age history of Muroc Army Field.

I would support the removal it was just trivia and of no relevance to the Skyknight. MilborneOne (talk) 20:53, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

== Article Much Improved in last 6 years ==

The article is very well done now. Without vandalism and a little extra work it could be nominated for a good article. 172.56.11.174 (talk) 06:43, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
